ACPS 2023-24 Salary Scale Changes and Contracts Webinar Summary

On June 6, 2023, Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) hosted a Question-and-Answer Webinar for staff to address changes to the 2023-24 ACPS employee salary scales and 2023-24 contracts. During the one-hour session, participants learned about the newly restructured 22-step salary scale and asked questions directly of our Chief Financial Officer Dominic Turner and Acting Executive Director of Human Resources Rene Paschal. The live recording of the webinar is available to employees on the compensation and salaries webpage.

The Alexandria City School Board has approved both a step increase and market rate adjustment (MRA) for all employee groups for the upcoming school year. The new pay scale removes the bottom step, and both hold-steps, and adds a new top step to the scale, resulting in increases for all no matter where you fall on the scale.

“In addition to the six percent pay increase, ACPS has added a new top step that is three percent higher as opposed to the two percent that we have on the current scale,” said Turner. “We have also removed the bottom step. All of this increases entry, mid-level and maximum pay for all as well as eliminates wage stagnation that our experienced staff would see at the top of the scale,” Turner added.

The new salary scales will be published shortly with a conversion table that illustrates the removal of the bottom step and hold steps, as well as identifies the new step added to the top. ACPS leadership consulted with the Education Association of Alexandria (EAA) to provide this information early and an overview of the new scales to help ensure this is best communicated with all staff.

Contract notifications started to go out to employees this week starting on June 5. All employees should receive their contracts by June 23, 2023.
